The Polish Forum of Young Diplomats (PFYD) is a nationwide non-governmental organization that brings together young people, students and graduates of a number of Polish and foreign universities, who have defined career ambitions of working in an international environment.
The vast majority of nearly 100 members of the PFYD are people with experience in national and international non-governmental organizations as well as, employees of the Polish public administration and the European Union institutions. The PFYD was established in 2002 and since then has been achieving its goals and objectives through Regional Representations based in Cracow, Lublin, Lodz, Poznan, Tricity and Warsaw.
The PFYD's mission is to:
"Create and educate future Leaders who, by their activities, will ensure the strong and stable position of Poland in the arena of international politics".
The PFYD is registered as a Public Benefit Organization, and has a partnership status with the Council of Europe. The PFYD is also a member of the Zagranica Group, the European Union - Russia Civil Society Forum and NGO Network (IVF). The PFYD participates in the work of Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum.
Public Benefit Organization - an official register of non-governmental organizations that do not operate to make profit, and dedicate their entire income to the statutory objectives relating to the conduct of public benefit. Non-governmental organizations which apply for a Public Benefit Organization status must meet many requirements. In return the status gives them many privileges, such as 1 % of income tax donated by individuals (www.1procent.diplomacy.pl). The PFYD been granted the Public Benefit Organization status since 2005. Partner organization of the Council of Europe - according to the Resolution of the Council of Europe "Resolution Res (2003)9" the status of a partner organization of the Council of Europe is awarded to the non-governmental organizations whose activities and responsibilities represent values relating to the objectives of the Council of Europe. Having obtained the status of a partner, the organization can issue opinions on the legal instruments drafted by the Council of Europe and participate in the sessions of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, as well as in other conferences and seminars at the invitation of the Council of Europe. The PFYD has been the partner organization of the Council of Europe since 23rd March 2006 and is the one of two organizations from Poland to have the status. For more information go to: www.coe.int.
The Zagranica Group - a Polish association of non-governmental organizations involved in international development cooperation, promotion of democracy and humanitarian action, that is NGDO (Non-Governmental Development Organizations). The European Union - Russia Civil Society Forum – a permament platform for cooperation and coordination between non-governmental organizations from both Russia and the European Union. The PFYD is a member of the EU - Russia CSF since 11th August 2011 and participates in the work of the Social Issues/Civic Participation Working Group III. NGO-Network (IVF) - a newly created network of non-governmental organizations from the Visegrad Group countries (Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary) and the Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine). The PFYD is a member of NGO-Network (IVF) since May 2012. NGO-Network (IVF) is funded by the International Visegrad Fund. For more information go to: www.ngo-network.org.
The Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum - a civic dimension of Eastern Partnership, an initiative of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The PFYD has been participating in the work of the EaP Civil Society Forum since November 2011 in the "Contacts Between People" Working Group IV.
